Our Choice

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

The writer of Ecclesiastes understood the human condition – that we go through different experiences and different times in our lives. He starts his list of activities with two that are beyond our control: “a time to be born and a time to die,…” (Ecclesiastes 3:2). But then he goes to activities that are different. They might involve circumstances beyond our control, but we still have a choice. Farmers cannot control the seasons, but they can choose when to plant or uproot. We cannot control the events of life, but we can choose how we will respond: to kill or to heal, to tear down or to build, to love or to hate.

We often cannot control, but we still have choice. And the most important choice is to always leave room for God. In particular, it is easy to let the our schedules overwhelm us as we pack in more activities, but as Christians, we need to look at our times and make sure that they are centered on God.

Prayer:

  1. How do you need to adjust your times (daily, weekly, monthly)?

Do you have times for prayer and Bible reading?

Do you have times for family (both your natural family and spiritual family)?

Do you have times to rest and to simply be alone with God?

Pray that God will give you wisdom.

  1. What choices have you made?

Have there been choices that you need to repent of?
